The menedez Brothers:
The official companion podcast
Role: Co-Writer & Producer
Genre: Narrative, True Crime, Documentary, TV/Film
Episode Length: ~40min
Frequency: One-time
Project Dates: July 2023 - September 2023; May 2024 - August 2024
I worked on this project for over a year and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. This series is the official companion to a Netflix documentary. The vision of the podcast was to provide more insight to the mythos behind the Menendez family.
It was a unique challenge of personally cataloging 20+ of interviews with the brothers to let them share their story further, without stepping on the toes of the original doc.
As a producer and co-writer, I helped write host VO, researched primary audio and video sources, and selected the best interview tape to realize the thematic elements of each episode.
During its first week of release (in the Netflix You Can’t Make This Up podcast feed, the show reached #14 across all Apple Podcasts and #3 on the TV/Film charts!
It was incredible to be a part of making something that’s reignited the national conversation surrounding these men and the justice system, and may lead to a new appeal for the brothers.
full three-part series
This podcast is perfect for your next road trip or for when you finally decide that yes, today is the day you’re going to reorganize your closet. This series can definitely stand on its own, but I highly recommend immersing yourself in the two-hour Netflix documentary first.
Episode 2 of this series is my personal favorite. It was creatively fulfilling to frame a modern tragedy with the themes and motifs from classical mythology. It was eerie at times how so many parts of this story felt straight out of ancient Greco-Roman lore.
